Many have perceived the term “theology” to be obscure and esoteric and prefer to run away from it.
I see the advantages of studying theology from both the perspective of Christians Apologetics and personal growth in God.
We are living in a multi-cultural and multi-religious world with multi-beliefs and philosophies springing up everywhere. There is an increasing need for God’s people to be anchored in the Truth in order to defend and explain the Truth in a comprehensive manner.
I agree with you that when it comes to theology, many will prefer to run away from it. I wonder whether you know of any reasons why people tend to turn away from theology.

BalasPadamI guess many are afraid of theology and tend to run away from it because they perceive it as something deep, dry, doctrinal, dead, hard to swallow..
before i came to bible school i have this thought as well. I never see theology as a study of God and His Word. Theology seems to be some "theory" among men's discussion about God, without God in the presence..i guess this is what many see it....a study without "spirit".
some has advised me to not study theology as they see knowledge piles up pride. But i started to question..is knowledge of God gonna to pile up pride in me? If i am studying and learning more of God and His Word, won't i be more humble and steadfast in my faith and walk with God?
As what is always said. Word without Spirit we dry up. Spirit without Word we brow up. Word with Spirit we grow up.
God is of Word and of Spirit. So study of theology shall make us more spirit-filled with more knowledge of who God is.
True understanding saves us from unnecessary fears. I am glad we have overcome the fears.
Thelogy are as important as our life example. Some people cannot balance up in both then they will use their own way to do what they knew only. 这有可能误导了许多还未认识上帝的人，这也是在圣经所记载的：不是呼叫我主啊！主啊！得人都能进神的国。I think Theology and life examples are important in the kingdom of God. People tend to run away due to in our country theology not yet been emphasize by Christians or maybe not many churches is teaching it to the believers.
BalasPadamTheology is not just a 'rationale' knowledge of God & Christian faith. Theology makes us 'know' more about God. The outcome of truly knowing God is so that we love God even more. Having learnt more about God, it's impossible that we do not fear HIM anymore; also not possible for us not to love HIM. The more we know God, the more we love HIM; the more we love HIM, the desire to know HIM grows greater. Combining all these together, we discover that theology is lively! It's a process in motion.
